Components In an Ecosystem

Components In an Ecosystem – Do you know what are the components in an ecosystem? Let’s read and understand the explanation below!

The environment is a gift given by God to living things on earth. The environment is created so that all creatures can live and fulfill their needs.

Biotic and Abiotic Components

An environment consists of biotic components (living things) and abiotic components (inanimate objects).

Biotic and abiotic components in an environment interact with each other. The interaction that occurs between biotic and abiotic components in an environment is called an ecosystem.

An ecosystem is composed of individuals, groups of individuals (populations), and communities.

What Is Individuals?

Individuals are single organisms. For example, a mouse, a cat, a banana tree, a coconut tree, and a human.

What Is Populations?

Groups of similar individuals who live in a certain area and time are called populations. For example, the population of giraffes in a meadow is 40 giraffes.

What Is Communities?

Various populations that live at a certain time and area that interact and influence each other are called communities. For example, coral reef communities are formed from fish populations, algae populations, and animal populations around them.

Interactions in a community are more numerous and complex when compared to individuals and populations. In a community, all living things are part of the community and inter-components are interconnected.

Between the community and the environment interaction occurs, so that an ecosystem is formed.

The components that make up the ecosystem are producers (green plants), consumers (herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores), and decomposers (microorganisms).
